Program Overview
About the Scholarship
The Lake Norman Giants is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to making youth football and cheer accessible to every athlete in our community. We provide financial assistance — in the form of a Scholarship Award or Partial Scholarship Award — to qualifying families based on demonstrated need. The number of awards available is limited and dependent upon organizational funds.
All applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Scholarship awards — including type and amount — are determined solely at the discretion of the Giants Scholarship Review Committee. Submitting an application does not guarantee an award. All information submitted will be taken into consideration.
Strict Confidentiality: All information provided in this application will be held in strict confidence and reviewed only by the Giants Scholarship Review Committee. It will be used solely to determine eligibility for financial assistance and will not be shared with others.
Open to All Athletes: Financial assistance is available to all eligible athletes regardless of geographic location. There are no zip code or residency restrictions.
Important: Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Misrepresentation of information is grounds for immediate dismissal of the application and denial of future financial assistance. Failure to provide requested documentation when asked will void this application.

Covers a portion of registration cost based on demonstrated need and available funds. The committee determines the exact percentage awarded.

Covers the full cost of registration. *Minus the required non-refundable $100 registration deposit, which all recipients must pay.
Required of All Recipients
$100 Non-Refundable Registration Deposit
All scholarship recipients — including those receiving a Full Scholarship Award — are required to pay a non-refundable $100 registration deposit at the time of registration. This deposit is not covered by the scholarship award.
Who Qualifies
Eligibility Criteria
Families may qualify for financial assistance if one or more of the following apply. Supporting documentation will be requested after your application is reviewed.

Child qualifies for free meals through the public school lunch program

Child qualifies for reduced-price meals through the public school lunch program

Household currently receives AFDC, SNAP, WIC, EBT, SSI, or similar assistance

Family can demonstrate financial hardship through other documentation
Recipient Expectations
Scholarship Commitments
8 Volunteer Hours
Recipients agree to complete a minimum of 8 volunteer hours during the season. These count toward the existing Giants volunteer credit requirement.
Reliable Transportation
Athlete must have reliable transportation to and from all scheduled practices, games, and organizational events throughout the season.
Full Season Participation
Once registered, participation for the full program session is required. Withdrawal for any unexcused reason results in scholarship ineligibility for one year.

Documentation
Be prepared to provide the following proof of eligibility when requested by the Scholarship Review Committee. You do not need to submit these with your application — the committee will request them as part of the review process.
Free/reduced school lunch determination letter
EBT, SNAP, WIC, AFDC, or SSI active benefit letter
Most recent federal tax return (first 2 pages / W-2)
Recent pay stubs (last 2–3 months)
Medicaid or CHIP enrollment letter
Disbursement voucher (for SDI or SSI recipients)
Note: Benefit cards alone are not sufficient — documentation must show that the benefit is currently active. Failure to provide requested documentation will void your application.
How It Works
Application Review Process
Here's what to expect once you submit your application. Multi-athlete families receive additional consideration during the review process.
- 01Submit your application via the online form by June 1, 2026. Applications are reviewed in the order received.
- 02Committee review. The Giants Scholarship Review Committee evaluates each application confidentially on a case-by-case basis.
- 03Documentation request. If needed, the committee will reach out to request supporting documentation. Respond promptly — failure to do so will void your application.
- 04Decision notification by June 10, 2026. You will be notified of your award status (Scholarship Award, Partial Scholarship Award, or declined) via email.
- 05Complete registration. Recipients pay the required $100 non-refundable deposit and complete registration through SportsConnect.
